SPOTLIGHT: SBG DESIGNS

(SS) What inspired you to start your company?

(SBG): I have always been obsessed with fashion and expressing myself through what I wear. As a little girl I would take apart my mother’s old jewelry and study the mechanics of design. I loved coming up with my own creations while pushing the boundaries on fashion and innovation. The positive reaction I received from my friends and family when they saw my initial designs is what really inspired me to start my company.

(SS) Where do you get the inspiration for each collection?

(SBG): Travel and music are my most influential inspirations. My collections are often inspired from a mix of cultural influence and the hot colors for the season.

(SS): In regards to your personal style, do you have a signature accessory?

(SBG): Lately I have been really into pearls. I have this pearl necklace that is extremely versatile! I can wear it as a long necklace, double the strands a short necklace or even wrap the pearls around my wrist as a multiple strand bracelet. The crystal magnetic clasp gives it a vintage look and creates a unique design element. This is my go-to for everything from a denim shirt to a party dress. “Coco Pearl Wrap” .

My Spy Necklace

My Eleven Paris Black Lambskin Biker Jacket which I found in Paris this past summer! I also CANNOT live without my vintage Bee Pendant Belt. It was my grandmothers and has become a staple in my wardrobe. I absolutely LOVE it! Grandma Harriet, you stylish maven you!

(SS): Who inspires your style? Favorite Style Icon?

(SBG): I’ll have to dish out some credit to the stylish and influential women I grew up with:My grandmothers Rose & Harriet, my mother Cindi and my older sisters Elly & Marcy. And I would be a fool to not give credit to my most influential style icon, my dapper dad Harold. I’ve never encountered someone who is as much into fashion as he is into sports. I have instagrammed more of Harold’s #ootd than my own! The man has got swagger! (SS): What is your "Style Archetype"?

(SBG): Motto (carries independent, up-and-coming designers and unique furniture/home goods)Three Rooms – if I ever need a unique gift!Arafina – fantastic dresses and love that they carry local designers! Martin Patrick 3 – This boutique is just down the street from my showroom in the north loop of downtown Minneapolis. I WISH they sold women’s clothes here….this is my favorite store to wander through. The merchandising is like a dream. You want to look at absolutely EVERYTHING! If you are ever in search of a gift for a man in your life, this is the place to go!
