On a recent trip to New York we got to meet with one of the most stylish women in TV and Radio Broadcasting - Kelly Dillon! Not only is she killing it in her career as both a broadcaster and voice-over artist, but she also runs a very successful fashion and beauty blog, kellydillon.com. We love how she is able to mix classic pieces with edgier items, and incorporate vintage for a unique style all her own. Read on to find out how she does it and be sure to check out her blog kellydillon.com

{SS}: Share your brief career journey and what are you focused on today?
{Kelly}: I went to school for broadcasting and for the last 10 years have worked my way up in the industry. I started out working as a radio reporter in smaller markets paying my dues, gradually making my way to the number one market, NYC! I am now a news and traffic reporter on radio and television stations in the tri-state area including 1010 WINS, Sirius Satellite Radio, and Fox 5. It was a lot of hard work and long hours, but it was all worth it to watch my dreams come true. Right now I am focusing on digital media. One day radio and television will be obsolete and we will get all of our news and information from the internet. In my industry it’s important to keep up with the constantly changing technology.

{SS}: Advice for those aspiring to build a career tv/radio?
{Kelly}: Be prepared for a lot of hard work. You will have to pay your dues, so that may mean working in a small market for a while and honing your skills. The days will be long and the hours crazy, but if you put the work in and show you are dedicated you will make it far. And I cannot stress enough how important networking is.

{SS}: What do you love about your job?
{Kelly}: I love the excitement of it and everyday is very different. I get to meet and interview so many unique and interesting people. A great perk with my job is that I get to meet so many of my favorite actors, musicians, and public figures that I look up to and who inspire me.

{SS}: Who inspires you in the business world?
{Kelly}: I can't pinpoint just one person, but fashion bloggers as a whole inspire me with their business savvy. So many have turned their passion and hobby into a full time career and turned their blogs into businesses. I get so inspired reading their success stories and it’s a great way to learn and get tips.

{SS}: Where do you get your daily news fix?
{Kelly}: I work in the news industry so I am surrounded by it 24/7. When I'm not at work I get it through social media.

{SS}: Your secret to work/life balance?
{Kelly}: It can be very hard sometimes to keep a good balance but I love to meditate. It really calms me and helps with stress. I've learned to just accept that sometimes you can't do it all and that's OK. Some weeks my life is all about work and others I focus on my personal life by going out with friends and doing things for me.

{SS}: In regards to your personal style, do you have a signature accessory?
{Kelly}: I don't have one signature accessory I wear everyday, but you will usually see me in a motorcycle jacket or a classic black blazer (I'm always cold even in the summer).

{SS}: A few items in your "Styleshack" A.K.A closet that you can't live without?
{Kelly}: I cannot live without a chic motorcycle jacket and classic black blazer. Again I wear one of those almost everyday. And my Chanel bag is one of my most treasured items in my closet. I worked very hard to treat myself to that bag and to me it is a reminder that hard work pays off.

{SS}: Who inspires your style? Favorite Style Icon?

{Kelly}: I am inspired by fellow fashion bloggers, celebrities, old school Hollywood, and historical figures. Some of my favorite celebrity style icons include Rooney Mara, Cate Blanchett, Victoria Beckham, Kim Kardashian, and Olivia Palermo. In the fashion world I am obsessed with Carine Roitfeld, Miroslava Duma, and Monica Rose.

{SS}: Favorite "local" boutiques?
{Kelly}: In Princeton, NJ there's a fantastic boutique called Zoe. They carry all of my favorite designers like Helmut Lang, Alexander Wang, Balenciaga, and Theory. And they have tons of black (my staple color). In NYC I love Oak, Otte, and Pinkyotto. I also LOVE to vintage shop. In NJ I'm constantly stopping by Vintage Alley in Verona, Udelco in Hawthorne, Design Consign in Fairfield, and Duet in Livingston. In the city I always get good finds at Housing Works Thrift Shops, Allan and Suzi, and The Hell's Kitchen Flea Market.

{SS}: Go-to spot for lunch or dinner in your neighborhood/city?
{Kelly}: In NJ you'll get the best Mexican food from Jose Tejas and the best Italian at Calandra’s. The best burger I have ever had is from Houston's. I'm getting so hungry thinking about it. There's a couple locations in Manhattan and one in Hackensack, NJ. Some of my favorite restaurants in the city are Fraunces Tavern, Lillie's Victorian Bar and Restaurant, and Artichoke Pizza.
