Roslyn Karamoko, owner of Detroit Is The New Black, is one of Detroit's hottest brand to be sporting. We love working with this chic #GirlBoss and promoting the DITNB name!

{SS}: Can you share with us your career background and how you got started?

{Roslyn Karamoko}: I started my career as a buyer in NY then worked as a retail consultant overseas in Singapore.

{SS}: When did you start Detroit Is the New Black and what inspired you to start this business?

?{Roslyn Karamoko}: DITNB started in 2014 and I was inspired by the momentum and energy in the city as well as my friends in various creative fields. Contrary to what media would have you to believe, I really fell in love with Detroit and felt inspired by the renaissance happening here.

{SS}: What are the greatest successes you have accomplished? Any challenges you have faced you would like to share with us?

?{Roslyn Karamoko}: I feel that coming to Detroit 2 years ago and being able to build a reputable brand in such a short amount of time has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career to date. The challenges continue day to day as the business grows. It's always tricky to navigate as you scale a small business, so that's been the most difficult piece. Staying motivated and inspired whilst in unchartered territory.

{SS}: What do you love about your job?

?{Roslyn Karamoko}: I love the flexibility and challenging nature of the job. Everyday is different and I can see the direct outcomes of my work.

{SS}: Who inspires you in the Fashion/Design world?

?{Roslyn Karamoko}: I love Dries Van Noten in the luxury world. I really appreciate the eclectic sensibility of the brand while still maintaining the clean lines. In the contemporary world, I'm loving Reformation at the moment. I love the sustainable business model, and affordable, effortless fashion.

{SS}: Your secret to work/life balance?

?{Roslyn Karamoko}: I believe in a good nights rest. If you are well rested you can do anything.

{SS}: What are your current favorite DITNB product(s)?

?{Roslyn Karamoko}: The Varsity cardigan. Super cozy and pulls any outfit together instantly. (Not Currently available in store)

{SS}: Are their any new products that you will be selling that you are excited about?

?{Roslyn Karamoko}: We're super excited about our camo set (crewneck sweatshirt & jogger pant) as well as our patch beanie. They are coming this month and are total must haves for the season.

Now onto your personal style…

{SS}: In regards to your personal style, do you have a signature accessory?

?{Roslyn Karamoko}: I usually always have on a headpiece. Hat, turban, etc. Mostly because I'm lazy with my hair, ha! But also because I believe headwear completes a look.

{SS}: A few items in your "styleshack" A.K.A closet that you can't live without?

?{Roslyn Karamoko}: My brand spanking new white Dr. Martens. So clutch for the winter. I'm also currently obsessing over our DITNB varsity jacket. I throw it over literally anything and it looks like I actually made the effort to look put together. Brilliant.
