Coachella Recap with Corinne Thomas of FoodJunky

The best friends, good food, high fashion and incredible music… All in the middle of the desert. Is there anything better than Coachella? In my opinion: no. I've had the luxury of attending the two weekend music and arts festival that takes place every April for the last two years. Both years, I've opted to head West for the second weekend, which brings a more relaxed crowd. While the attitudes are a little more laid-back during round two, the same cannot be said for their outfits.

What they Wore

IMG_6687It's no secret that the opening weekend of Coachella brings tons of buzz and even more celebrity sightings. Because of this, those attending weekend two feel even more pressure to one-up and outdo the looks featured beforehand.

This year, attendees forgot their flower headbands and neon pants (thank gosh), and headed to the fields at Empire Polo club dressed head-to-toe in black. On a night out, this is to be expected; however in the middle of the desert, when temperatures are hovering around 100-degrees, it was slightly surprising.

Another trend that was sure to be spotted in every friend group was the half-up top knot. The top knot, whether half or all the way up, is a really easy way to get a chic look with minimal effort. This hairstyle has been sported more and more frequently by celebrities, and is really pickingup steam. It appeared to be the perfect no-fuss solution for those who wanted to beat the heat while looking great. FullSizeRender

What I Wore

There's a lot of planning that goes into picking outfits to rock at Coachella, especially when you have to pack a suitcase and travel halfway across the country. This year, I was so thankful to be styled prior to the festivals by Styleshack and Guys N Gals.

It was comforting to have a fashion expert weigh-in on the outfits I'd be wearing and give me that little boost of confidence necessary to step outside my comfort zone with festival fashion. (Note: most of the items I wore can be purchased on Styleshack.)You can shop Guys N Gals on Styleshack.

I wanted to start the weekend off with a classic look, which is why I chose to wear a (brand) white, lace crop top. To make the look more edgy, I sported only a black bandeau under the top and paired it with distressed, black high waisted shorts. I finished off the look with neutral booties, vintage round sunglasses, and of course, red lips.

My second outfit was probably my favorite, mainly because the ombre fringe vest I wore. Under it, I showed off some love for home with a "Detroit is the New Black" t-shirt. I wore leather bracelets and a necklace, all with a pop of turquoise to bring out the bit of blue in the vest. To add a slightly feminine vibe, I wore Free People black lace shorts- which were insanely comfortable. Between the comfort of the shorts and how cool the fringe looked when I moved, I was able/excited to be a dancing machine during some of my favorite artists.

On the final day, I decided to go all out. I sported a slightly destroyed, cut-off Lauren Moshi t-shirt. With so many acts to see at different stages, I knew I'd be moving around a lot, so I saved this comfy shirt for Sunday. In keeping up with the casual vibe of the t-shirt, I wore cheeky high waisted distressed denim shorts and black sneaker wedges. I accessorized with the same leather necklace and bracelets as the day before and finished the look off with blue tinted Betsy Johnson aviators. It was definitely a funky feel and I loved it!Overall, I think everyone (myself included) stepped up their fashion game for Coachella this year. There was no style that was left out or ignored over the course of the two weekend festival. With what was brought to the table in 2015, I honestly can't imagine and wait for what's in store next year!
