Over the past few months I've had the opportunity to get to know Karen Mac Donald, business professional and now Designer & founder of, "Wrapped in Love" a chic fashion for a cause company. I interviewed her below and she explains the important mission and vision behind her new venture and meaningful company!
{SS}: Can you tell us a bit about your background?
{KM}: I have a real estate background. I was involved with Marketing & PR for the Real Estate Shopping Center industry (worked at Taubman Company). After 30 years, I was ready to make a transition. My parents were getting older and I knew I wanted to do something different – and figured if I would have an opportunity to do something different, the time was coming. In 2014, with my dad and his health not doing well. I decided to give "Wrapped in Love" a try and my husband was extremely supportive. I noticed that everyone I mentioned the idea to, it put a smile on their face. I've always felt it was important to give back I've been inspired by Toms and what he's done with his company and other "socially good" companies.
{SS}: Inspiration behind your company, Wrapped in Love? 
{KM}: A few years back my mom was admitted into the hospital just before Christmas. She had been very ill and each day her condition worsened. My greatest hope was to have her remain with us for Christmas. I brought a beautiful wrap and put it over her patient gown so she could feel special that Christmas day. The nurses said she seemed to light up as I wrapped it around her, as she now felt dressed for the holiday, though having to remain in her patient gown.
She passed away a few days later.
Mom was the inspiration for my creation called Wrapped in Love, a lightweight, fashionable coverup wrap, that can go over a patient gown to make someone feel special during a challenging time. It comes in a variety of styles and cheerful colors.
{SS}: Best part about your job?
{KM}: Honestly, it is the excitement of starting a new chapter in my life. Also the fact, I can produce locally. I work with so many great Michigan resources and of course being able to work with a Michigan based production facility.
{SS}: Where are the Wrapped in Love items sold?
{KM}: Online (on the recently launched website http://www.wrappedinlove.com), Styleshack.com, and looking to sell in Hospitals and Boutiques! What also makes the Wrapped in Love brand extremely special, is our social mission. This quarter, 2% of all sales will be donated to the Hospice of Michigan.

{SS}: How do you see the brand evolving?
{KM}: I also (currently) offer bags through wrappedfashion.com, but for the "Wrapped in Love" brand specifically, would possibly get into bracelets, slippers (specialty items) mens, kids etc.

{KM}: Womens Wear Daily
{SS}: Favorite local boutiques?
{KM}: I appreciate style and enjoy shopping. A few of my favorites are, Janet Varner, Hershs, finding something different – love traveling and discovering boutiques from all over the world (i.e. Paris, Italy)!
{SS}: Favorite local restaurants?
{KM}: High Tea – Mad Hatter Tea Bistro in Birmingham, The Townsend, Restaurants in Royal Oak!
