unnamed-11{SS}: Can you give us a brief background on how the company was established?

{Becca}: POUND Jewelry consists of a mother (Linda) and her two daughters (Becca and Mia). The business was conceptualized around four years ago in an attempt to unite creative ideas with a deep love for jewelry and adornment. Linda has been making jewelry for over 30 years though and one day Becca and Mia decided it was time to encourage her to share her gift with the world. All three of us collaborate in order to make POUND as strong as possible. Linda is the head creative aka designer of nearly every single POUND piece while Mia photographs and blogs for POUND. Becca is the main sales representative and participates in most of the social media and business aspects of the company.

{SS}: Inspiration behind the name POUND Jewelry?

{Becca}: The inspiration behind the name of POUND came from a dear family friend who loved the idea of making the name of the business represent the “weight” the pieces carry. It also is indicative of the way the pieces can be FELT when worn and is symbolic of a heart pounding forcefully. As POUND Jewelry has evolved, we realize more and more, the name could not be more perfect for our company.

{SS}: Can you each share one of your favorite pieces ever designed?

{Becca}: Our favorite pieces change all the time! Right now we are all rather obsessed with our POUND pendulums and many of the new unique designs created from our Sorceress collection. Linda wears her Opalite POUND pendulum religiously, while myself and Mia alternate between Carnelian, Amethyst and Aventurine POUND pendulums often. Each stone has it’s own significant meaning, complexity and beauty and depending on our moods, we like to change it up. From the Sorceress collection, Mia loves the Lilura necklace, which contains stones such as Lepidochrocite, which assist in an overall deepening of intuition and communication with angels. Becca is in love with green kyanite, found in the Maeve necklace, which is one of the only stones in the universe that neither attracts or retains negative energy. Linda is also in love with her Uvarovite green druzy pendant, which is a stone that amongst many other things, assists us to feel solitude without loneliness.

{SS}: Would you consider your pieces to be "boho chic, eco chic, edgy chic or all of the above?  Who is the lady that wears your jewelry?

{Becca}: Our pieces are all of the above! Many bohemian, gypsy style spirited people are attracted to the pendulums and the meanings behind the pieces so they have something they find resonates more than a mass produced piece of jewelry, yet look fashionable and chic while wearing them. We are also a family business that hand makes everything ourselves domestically and we work with materials that are produced ethically. At the same time, some of the pieces from our Warrior and Sorceress collection are rather confronting,  statement pieces that have an edgy and tribal aesthetic. They are unique yet versatile. Like all of us.

{SS}: What was the inspiration behind the most recent collection?

{Becca}: All of our current inspiration grows from history and more specifically, women in history. We are drawn to patterns and cycles that occur in nature, the cosmos and female heroines. We love looking to mythology and ancient stories that resonate with the power and innate beauty that exists in all women.pound-jewlery-lookbook-2013-1 pound-jewlery-lookbook-2013-17

{SS}: Can you recommend a few different styles?

{Becca}: Pretty much anyone can wear our POUND pendulums to work and just as easily to a happy hour after work. They attract a ton of attention at every happy hour we have ever been to! Many people also wear pieces from their Warrior collection such as the howlite spike pieces with an edgier outfit and women who work in more corporate positions often wear necklaces that are a bit more regal and refined from our Priestess collection. We have had a few brides ask us to design pieces for their wedding day and we love it! It is so fun when someone wants something incredibly special and unique and we can make it work for them. We would love to make a wedding collection in the future for that radical bride.

{SS}: Which pieces do you wear most often?

{Becca}: All of us wear the POUND pendulums most often because we can wear multiple at once or layer them with other POUND statement pieces from any of the other collections. We feel naked without them!

{Becca}: History inspires our style, collectively. French style, South American style, and anything vintage that feels like a worn treasure. A few style icons are Barbara Streisand, Cleopatra, Iris Apfel and Diana Vreeland. Women throughout history who decided that instead of working to fit into a mold made the mold melt around them inspire us.

{SS}: Words to live by? Or Favorite Quote?

“Creativity is the greatest form of rebellion”—Osho“The world without spirit is a wasteland. People have the notion of saving the world by shifting things around, changing the rules, and who’s on top, and so forth. No, no! Any world is a valid world if it’s alive. The thing to do is to bring life to it, and the only way to do that is to find in your own case where the life is and become alive yourself.” ~Joseph Campbell
