Styleshack Spotlight: Shibue Couture

From the catwalk to the side walk, Shibue has you covered! We talked with Jenny Shibue, the AMAZING founder of, Shibue Couture.

{SS} What inspired you to start your company?

{JB} I was inspired several years ago when I was asked to be a bridesmaid in my sister's wedding and the dress I had to wear was a beautiful, silky, chocolate custom gown… but every undergarment and shape wear I tried showed bumps or lines across my back, hips and thighs! I really wanted something that was sexy and feminine and that didn’t show lines in my bridesmaid dress. Since I did not want to go without panties and I didn’t want to walk down the aisle showing bad panty lines, I set out on finding a solution. After a lot of R & D, I figured that I could take a pair of my panties, trim off the sides, and use a double-sided tape to keep them on me!

Voila!

My problem was solved!

I walked down the aisle without any panty lines and I spent half the night in the bathroom showing all my girlfriends my panties!

When my sister and friends asked for a pair of strapless panties I really believed I was on to something…. and I never looked back!

{SS} In regards to your personal style, do you have a signature look or accessory?

{JB} My personal style is all over the place… I can't seem to get out of the 60’s and 70’s and it's what really works best for me. I love anything from Free People to BCBG Max Azria!

I adore their flowing clothes infused with bohemian glamour, bell bottom jeans and slouchy sweaters… but don’t get me wrong I also love short little dresses and tailored looks by designers like Herve Leger or Alice and Olivia…. I guess you could say I have a split “fashion” personality when it comes to my wardrobe…. but I’m always having fun in what I wear and I am ALWAYS wearing a Shibue.

One things for sure… You will never see a panty line on me!

As for my daily uniform, when I am not running off to events I would be in anything bell-bottomed or boot cut and preferably in jeans!

{SS} A few items in your "Styleshack" A.K.A closet that you can't live without?

{JB} My Virgin, Saints and Angel gold crown cuff, Burberry trench coat and my Alaia Platform boots! My closet would show you my love for platform heels, boots and an excess of purses.

{SS} Who or What inspires your style? Favorite Style Icon?

{JB} These amazing style icons inspire me in so many ways… Marilyn Monroe, Bianca Jagger, Brigitte Bardot, Anna Wintour and designers Coco Chanel, Azzedine Alaïa, Max and Lubov Azria to just name a few… they inspire me to be different, take risks and that’s a great feeling! You may or may not love them… but you can’t ignore them and their influence in fashion!

{JB} The Classic

{SS} Favorite fashion or lifestyle blog?

{JB} When I am traveling I love color blocking and a classic black and white look… it’s chic and simple! Just add a great pair of heels or boots, a bold colored purse like red or blue and top off the look with smoky eye makeup! The look pulled together lends just the right amount of sexiness and sophistication.

My favorite blogger is Chiara Ferragni, “The Blonde Salad”. She’s fun, young and quirky and plays to her own beat! I love that in a girl!

{SS} Favorite "local" boutiques?

{JB} I love Dali’ Boutique and Luna Boutique in Huntington Beach and A’maree’s in Newport Beach, California. They are my go to stores when I need something fun and fashionable, sophisticated and trendy…. without a hefty price tag! You can find amazing pieces there!
