The life of a news anchor seems so glamorous – breaking stories, front row access to big events and celebrities, a coveted wardrobe, hair and makeup people! Its all "lights, camera and action" until you realize that you have to wake up at 2:30 am…

The truth is, broadcasting is really hard. It requires dedication, persistence, and a lot of long hours. Most people wouldn't do what it takes to get ahead in that industry. But Maurielle Lue is not most people. She graduated with honors in the top 15% of her class at Hampton University, and before long landed her first big break at WEWS-TV in Cleveland. For three years, she juggled duties as morning anchor and breaking news reporter, before calling Detroit home with her current gig at FOX Television Stations. Not only is she a Morning News Anchor, but she also anchors "The Nine" and "Let it Rip Weekend".

Despite the early bird hours she keeps, Maurielle manages to look stylish and sleek, stays diligent and focused, and is always empathetic. Her job requires tenacity, flexibility, and a sense of humor – which Maurielle has in spades, along with a passion for fashion!

Trust us. You'll want to watch her live and keep her on your social media, "who to follow" list, for both motivation and style inspo! Check out our interview below to see how this Leading Lady does it…

{SS}: What is your current profession?

{Maurielle}: "I am an Emmy Award winning News Anchor and TV Host at the FOX owned television in Detroit. I anchor the weekend morning shows; Host 'Let it Rip- Weekend' – a Weekly Ripped form the headlines debate show. I also cohost 'The Nine' Detroit's highest rated all local morning talk show."

{SS}: Tell us about your typical day:

{Maurielle}:  "My days start early… 2:30am to be exact. Once I'm up, I'm up! There is no stopping!  One hour after my alarm rings, I'm on my way to the TV studio – miracously in full TV hair and make up. I have no idea how I pull it off every morning but it happens. From 3:30am – 4:14am I check work emails, social media, and channel surf to check for breakers and updates on developing stories I may have missed — since I do go to bed at 9:30pm. At 4:30am, it's lights, camera, action! I begin our first newscast of the day and anchor until 6am.

Within the commerical break, I turn my attention to pop culture headlines to prepare for the next show, The Nine. By 7:30am, I host Mornings with Mauri on Facebook Live – a behind the scenes "day in the life" segment I created to interact with my fans. I have three more in-studio appearances in the eight o'clock hour before leaving to host The Nine.

Once it hits 11am, I check emails for about an hour, prep for shows the following day, and meet with the producers one more time before going home for the day, check personal emails, and fulfill personal appearance and community engagement requests. Finally, if I'm lucky, I might even head to the gym!"

{SS}: What do you love about your job?

{Maurielle}: "My job is different every day! That's really amazing when you think about it. It's fun, challenging and VERY competitive! I live for competition. The best thing about working in news is INSTANT GRATIFICATION!  If a child goes missing or police need assistance in any way we are there — getting you the informtion to solve a crime, and  we're there to report it when the case is closed."

{SS}: Any advice to those starting out in your profession?

{Maurielle}: "Don't let ayone tell you what you cannot do!  In this business, people will try and tell you you have to take "their path". Whether it is working in X many markets before making it to the big leagues, submit X many Emmys before actually winning, be X age before anchoring. I debunked ALL of those traditional news roles because I always stayed true to myself."

{SS}: Being a well-verse woman in media, where do you, personally, get your daily news fix?

{Maurielle}: "Twitter is a great place to catch a breaker – but I get a surprising amount of news from Instagram these days."

{SS}: What do you do to make you feel beautiful, confident, and ready to take on anything?

{Maurielle}: "I'm all about my hair – and my lashes! My parents impressed upon me at a very, very young age to ALWAYS look presentable. That lesson comes in handy now that I am asked for pictures everywhere I go. I don't need a lot of makeup or super fancy clothes – I just like to be comfortable… and in a pair of flip flops!"

{SS}: What is your "Style Archetype"?

{Maurielle}:

{SS}: Who is your Style Icon?

{Maurielle}: "I actually look to one of my best friends for fashion guidance. She owns a boutique but is effortlessly beautiful, ALWAYS! She looks amazing in absolutely everything from sweatpants to evening gowns. I also notice trending styles on my favorite pop culture TV shows and incorporate what I can. But the truth is, if it is not comfortable, I'm not wearing it!"

{SS}: What are your current favorite items on Styleshack?

{Maurielle}:

{Maurielle}: "Anything Beyonce!"

{SS}: What is your power outfit or accessory (the thing you know you look and feel your best in, whether it's for work, staying at home, playing, etc.)?

{Maurielle}: "When I graduated with Honors from Hampton University, my mother surprised me with a beautiful diamond ring. I wear it for all work related BIG events – first time anchoring, big political interviews, even celebrity interviews."

{SS}: Who inspires you and why?

{Maurielle}: "I am inspired by many. My family, my spiritual leaders, and the women who paved the way to my network television goals."

{SS}: What are YOUR "words to live by" or favorite saying/quote?

{Maurielle}:

{SS}: As you know, we love to shop local. What are your favorite local spots to shop?

Whether I need a dress for an event to even more casual wear, there is something for me to find and LOVE! Blu Jeans Bules also has great products- such as evening wear, everyday wear, and great accessories. I also love Royal Dutchess because they have a great selection of fun tops, dresses, and so much more!"
