Robyn Coden thought she was going to be living a glamorous life in NYC. Instead, she lives part of the year at Camp Tanuga in upstate Michigan, runs not one but TWO businesses, is a wife and most importantly, mom to two incredible little girls. While it may be very different than what she expected, she loves every minute of her crazy life…"Well, some of the days. Some days I don't love so much. But that's life. What are you gonna do?"

Robyn met Cody, her husband, in the year 2002.  It wasn't your typical, met at a bar, through friends, or at work story. They had each just finished their hard workouts for the morning and Robyn thought she just met the coolest guy ever. I don't think there is a more romantic way of meeting your soul mate; in your most natural and sweaty state - I mean, am I right, or am I right?

A few years after their unconventional meeting they adopted an 11-month-old little girl, Frankie, from Chongqing, China in 2008. Robyn is the first to admit she had no idea what they were doing. And about a year and some months later, a little girl, JJ, was born.

Thankfully, (because we are pretty obsessed) Robyn decided to document her life with and for her daughters. She created her blog Dim Sum and Doughnuts: "this blog is is my way of preserving memories and lessons for my family while sharing experiences and connecting with others.  One day, many years from now, it will be good for my girls to have this.  They will know how much I loved them and how much I loved these days."

Honestly, we don't know how she does it.  And manages to look GORGEOUS! Seriously, she is incredibly beautiful. So we got a little personal to find out more about how she keeps it all together:

{SS}: Ok, tell us about what you do?

{Robyn}: Currently, I have three professions: 1. I'm a mom. I have two girls, one adopted and one biological. 2. I have a promotional products business called Pronto Promotions. I’ve been in the promotional industry for almost 20 years. 3. I write a blog called “Dim Sum and Doughnuts." I started writing it in 2011 for my girls to have when they become adults. It focuses on parenting, adoption and our life at Camp Tanuga in Northern Michigan where my husband is one of the directors. DS+D is stories from my life, mistakes made, and lessons learned. Over the years, the blog has received such positive feedback and resonated with so many people, we recently made the decision to brand it. The blog is still intended for my girls one day, but we are also using it as a platform (along with all of our other social media channels) to connect with others and bring awareness to all the things we believe in.

{SS}: Tell us about your typical day:

{Robyn}: It depends on where I am, at camp or at home. My schedule and environment change depending on my location, but no matter where I am, I’m with my kids—dealing with their schedules and their moods. I used to work-out every morning, but now with the new business, my days no longer have the same routine so I grab a work-out when I can. I’m always working or thinking about what I can be doing to grow the businesses. I fit in time with friends whenever I can, I dream about downtime to catch up on Elle, Bazaar and Vogue, and I’m usually eating something.

{SS}: Any current projects you are working on?

{Robyn}: So much! I'm always working with clients  at "Pronto Promotions" on their promotional needs. In addition, I'm also working hard at “Dim Sum and Doughnuts:” We just teamed up with a children's clothing store for a “Back To School” party in August, 2016. We’re also working on a very special LGBT video awareness campaign for the month of June, and I’m always busy writing pieces for the DS+D blog and other publications.

{SS}: What is your biggest hurdle as a mom and business women?

{Robyn}: Finding free time and balance.

{SS}: What do you do to mentally prepare yourself to overcome those hurdles/daily struggles?

{Robyn}: I take a walk every morning with my dog, Bruno. That’s when I figure out pretty much everything.

{SS}: What is the thing that you are awesome at – the thing that makes you happy and you know you are the best at it?

{Robyn}: Eating cake. I am THE BEST at that. Also, I like to think I'm good at teaching others to learn from my mistakes because I have made A LOT of them!

{SS}: What do you do to make yourself feel beautiful, confident and ready to take on anything?

{Robyn}: Smile.

{SS}: What is your “Style Archetype?”

{SS}: What is your power outfit or accessory (the thing you know you look and feel your best in, whether its for work, staying at home, playing, etc.)?

{Robyn}: My tattoos are my power accessories. I'm always wearing them and they're always with me. They tell the story of my life and my loves.

{SS}: Who inspires you and why?

{Robyn}: Eminem. When he falls, he always gets back up.

{SS}: What are your “words to live by..” Favorite saying or quote?

{Robyn}:

{SS}: Is there anything else you want people to know about you?

{Robyn}: I love being a mom and I didn't think I would. I thought I'd be living in NYC, not Camp Tanuga. I eat too much sugar. I'm secretly really tired. I'm not infertile, I just wanted to adopt, I will always watch re-runs of Sex and the City and Miami Vice (the first 2 seasons). My favorite sports team is the Ohio State Buckeyes. (Go Bucks!) I love fashion magazines. I don’t like avocado.

{SS}: Favorite "local" boutiques?

{Robyn}: In Metro Detroit I love shopping for my kids at Restyle Child in Birmingham, MI, they always have great pieces of clothing. Extra Oomph! located in Sylvan Lake, MI has fabulous home accessories and gifts where as Suhm Thing is another great Michigan store with gifts, accessories, and decor located in Traverse City and Birmingham, MI.  What To Wear is a local authentic boutique store in Traverse City carrying women's apparel, shoes, and much more! Ella's is another great women's and men's apparel store as well as a home accessory store located in Traverse City.  Another favorite of mine is Elizabeth's Head to Toe in Birmingham, MI which pampers you to the max!! Between fabulous massages, treatments, private parties, and even free make up lessons, you will feel like a bride-to-be!

{SS}: Favorite go-to place to eat?

{Robyn}: My go-to's are Asaggi in Ferndale, Vicente's in Detroit, Athen's Souvlaki in Southfield, Whistle Stop in Birmingham, and Chartruse in Detroit!!
