BedrockLogoWe had the opportunity to chat with Robin Schwartz, Director of Public Relations for Bedrock Real Estate Services in the heart of Detroit. She is a phenomenal business woman and true leading lady! Read the interview below.

{SS}: Share your brief career journey and what is your current role today?rs4

{Robin Schwartz}: When I was just 15 years old, I set my sights on the fast-paced competitive world of broadcast journalism, and I was lucky to accomplish everything I set out to do in this amazing, whirlwind field. After graduating with a degree in Broadcast Journalism from Syracuse University, I started my news career, first at a tiny radio station in Upstate New York, then as a TV news anchor/reporter at the ABC affiliate in Albany, NY. Five and a half years later, I got my big break and moved to Detroit to join the Fox 2 News team. I worked at Fox 2 for 17 years – always as a reporter, and ultimately as a weekend anchor/reporter. I rs3was also responsible for the station’s FOX environmental franchise and served as a member of the web team. In addition, I worked simultaneously as a freelance columnist for the Detroit Jewish News for 11 years. In October, 2014 I had the incredible opportunity to break out of my comfort zone and try something new as Director of Public Relations for Bedrock Real Estate Services. Now, I am dedicated to telling Detroit’s comeback story as a PR professional and loving being part of the city’s ongoing resurgence!

{SS}: What do you love about your job?

{Robin Schwartz}: I am a passionate storyteller and I love being able to tell Detroit’s untold stories of entrepreneurship, innovation, creativity, growth and renewal every day. The stories and possibilities are endless and there are incredible people “behind the scenes” putting their heart and soul rsinto making a difference  in Detroit. As a TV news reporter, I always had a front-row seat for major news events, but I was on the outside looking in. Now, I still have a front-row seat, from the inside. It’s not easy to make a major career change after 23 years in one field, but I love that I’m being challenged and learning and growing and building upon the foundation of my previous career. I also love that I get to work alongside so many dedicated professionals.

rs7{SS}: Who inspires you in the business world?

{Robin Schwartz}: Entrepreneurs, risk takers, creative geniuses, people with brilliant ideas who know how to make things happen and those who give back to their communities, important causes, and others.

{SS}: Where do you get your daily news fix?

{Robin Schwartz}: As a PR person – we monitor the news constantly – so I don’t really get a “daily” news fix. I get a 24/7 around-the-clock news fix from a variety of local and national news sources and via social media.

{SS}: Your secret to work/life balance?

{Robin Schwartz}: I am hoping someone will give me the secret! As the mother of a second-grader and a hard working professional its daily balancing act. I guess the key is to try to maintain perspective – and remember the “bigger picture” of what is most important in to the long-run.

Now onto your personal style…

{SS}: In regards to your personal style, do you have a signature accessory?

{Robin Schwartz}: I often wear a gold tassel necklace which belonged to my grandmother. As a child, I called it “Octi” because I thought the tassel looked like an octopus. My grandmother gave it to me a few years before she passed away and it is a treasured keepsake. I enjoy giving vintage pieces like this a new life or a “next generation."

{SS}: A few items in your "Styleshack" A.K.A closet that you can't live without?

{Robin Schwartz}: I know it sounds boring, but I cannot live without black pants and a black pencil skirt. I wear these often with a variety of different tops. I also can’t live without my Lulu Lemon yoga pants and various Lulu tops. They are stylish, super comfortable and easy for a mom on the go!

{SS}: Who inspires your style?  Favorite Style Icon? halle-berry-435

{Robin Schwartz}: I think Halle Berry always looks impeccable on the red carpet at black tie events. Beyond that, I don’t really have a style “icon.” I like to do my own thing.

{SS}: Style Archetype?

Screen Shot 2015-07-27 at 12.23.08 PM{Robin Schwartz}: I am a cross between classic, professional chic, sporty chic, eco chic and boho chic depending on my mood.

{Robin Schwartz}:
