We sat down with the owners of the very lovely, Extra Oomph! {home decor store} in Birmingham, Michigan! Extra Oomph! is chic, charming and offers a wonderful product selection with a wide range in price point. Besides home-decor, you will find great gifts, and curated collection of accessories.{SS} What inspired you to start your store? How long have you been in Business?
{EO} I have been in the retail business for close to 2 years although I have been in the interior design business for over 20 years. Shopping trips to the furniture and accessories markets through the years and shopping for clients inspired me to open a boutique and display many of my favorites lines from home furnishing and home accessories to fashion accessories such as jewelry, belts and scarves to mention a few.
{SS} What is the best part of your job?
{EO} Traveling to different markets, meeting new people, and my love for fun and unusual things.
{SS} Any new items in the store that you love right now?
{EO} The Mary Frances beaded purses are a showstopper and we have lots of fun and unusual jewelry.
{SS} Where do you find inspiration?
{EO} I love things out of the ordinary so inspiration is found in personal travel as well as traveling to the various markets throughout the United States; Denver, Atlanta, High Point and Las Vegas to name a few.
{SS} Do you have a certain style (personally) that you love for interior design/home decor? If so, please describe!
{EO} I am a fan of all styles. I think a person’s lifestyle and personality will ultimately determine how they live and what they wear.
I prefer casual living. Blue jeans, silver and turquoise and a couch I can put my feet up on after a long day and snuggle with my dog and cat.
{SS} Favorite Designer or Artist? {EO} Ralph Lauren
{SS} Favorite HGTV show?
{EO} Not for me. I prefer the travel channel. Where can I go next…….
{SS} Words to live by?
{EO} One of the nation's top interior designers, Dan Carithers of Atlanta, said, "If I had $500,000 to spend on a room, I'd spend $400,000 of it on the accessories . . . A sofa's a sofa, a rug a rug, but accessories are how you can sense what a person is all about. They are the most important ingredient in decorating . . .
