As an eager fashion enthusiast living in Michigan one would think the only opportunities to get a stellar fashion education would be out of state i.e. New York City, L.A. or to a fashion institute abroad. If you were to do your research you would find that Central Michigan Universities Apparel Merchandising and Design program is ranked within the top 20 fashion programs in the country. CMU’s program offers students opportunities to study abroad, participate in an annual fashion show, attend fashion conferences in Detroit and Chicago, an opportunity to attend MAGIC trade show in February and the option to become a part of the Fashion Association of Merchandising and Design (FAMD) just to name a few.

In early November of 2013 Styleshack was invited by the President of FAMD, Senior Stephanie Kula to visit the Mount Pleasant area and be FAMD’s guest speaker for the group’s November 5th meeting. Rachel shared her story of how she came up with the idea to start Styleshack. It was when she was living in New York City working for a designer in a full time position running the E-commerce site that she realized that most small fashion designers, boutiques and brands cannot afford nor have the time to dedicate to an E-commerce site. But with the fast pace world we live in now it is almost necessary to have online presence. Rachel continued to share her passion and dedication to Styleshack and explained how Styleshack is an important tool for both the retailer and the consumer to use. Rachel had her full time summer intern Calley McMillan join the presentation to add value and insight on what Calley did throughout her summer with Styleshack. Through Rachel's presentation us fashionista's and fashionist0's became very interested about opportunities with Styleshack as well as using it as our go to style tool.

"FAMD continues to amaze me with all of the hard work, dedication and commitment students have to grow their professional network and improve their resumes. I am so proud to be the President of this fabulous group and can only hope that I have made a positive impact on each member," quotes FAMD President Stephanie Kula.

With everything that Central Michigan University offers to its fashion students its no surprise that they were ranked in the top 20 fashion schools in the country right next to FIDM and FIT. So before students apply for those fashion programs outside the state, they need to take a look at what’s in their very own backyard. A school full of amazing opportunities and a team of faculty that finds pride in seeing their students succeed. Fire up chips!
