New York City was all a flurry with designers sashaying their most promising looks for spring 2014 at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Just as we're diving into our fall wardrobes, we need to reserve time to plan what to wear for next spring – six months and counting. Don't worry, we've simplified the style search by selecting the crème de la crème of New York's fashion week.

Let's jump right in!

1. NARCISO RODRIGUEZ

Lauded for his impeccable gift of perfecting construction and tailoring, Rodriguez fantastically executes another season of the aforementioned – by seamlessly adding newness without originating new materials. His collection showcased a neutral color palette -black & white, blush and citrus tones – and simple graphic prints – mainly color-blocking. The mini-skirt dubbed “half-skirt” – halfway wrapped around the front with shorts underneath – added a futuristic twist to a classic cut. Along with the silk skirts, the black blazers were trimmed with laminated panels. Think lots of clean lines, simple cuts and sleek silhouettes.

2. MONIQUE LHUILLIER

The glam gown designer infused daily wardrobe staples with her iconic luxe formality – opulent fabrics (organza, silk), beading and lace. Lhuillier's "Sheer elegance" collection is comprised of "delicately balanced textures, innovative layering and sophisticated ease." The upgraded daywear was a sea of pretty pastels, pops of poppy and coral and floral print. Bare midriff tops were strewn throughout – paired with midi and below-the-knee skirts. Along with its crop top counterpart, the bandeau was brazenly matched with a high-waisted floor-length full skirt. Think romantic glam meets edgy chic.

3. ZAC POSEN

The season of love was the theme of Posen's spring/summer 2014 collection. Romantic ornamentation graced the runway by virtue of desirable, luxurious layers of ruffles and textiles -chiffon, embroidered lace, organza, tulle, satin, floral jacquard. The ball gowns and party dresses are "conceptual evening" – things that push the element of silhouette. The pieces glowed in an “Impressionist’s painting color palette- something that could be very soft and have a sculptural element.” Posen was inspired by 19th century French actress, Sarah Bernhardt, for his ultra-feminine and palatial looks. Think demure girl meets sexy siren via refined pleats, corsetry, romantic ruffles and structural pieces.ZP-style1

4. J.Crew

Tom Mora married Californian beach culture and early 20th century Venice's Lido lifestyle for the American preppy clothing line's 2014 spring/summer ready-to-wear. It was a chic blend of sophisticated style – full-skirted sundresses, blazers, lace, varied eyelets, nautical stripes- and casual attire – neoprene skirts, flowered t-shirts, paint-splattered cargo pants, high-waisted denim shorts. The collection leaned more towards sporty and menswear. Think polished yet laid back – oversized Aloha-print tees paired with sleek, tailored trousers.
